About This Place

Situated in the heart of Springfield, IL, Brewhaus stands out as a beloved local bar that effortlessly blends old-school charm with a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere. Located at 617 E Washington St, this spot is a true neighborhood gem for both locals and visitors seeking a genuine, unpretentious place to unwind with great drinks and genuine company.

Brewhaus boasts a massive bar back, offering an impressive variety of beers on tap that cater to diverse palates—including the rare treat of a dry cider, appreciated by aficionados who find it hard to come by elsewhere. Whether you're in for a classic cold one or something a bit more adventurous, Brewhaus delivers refreshment and quality with each pour.

What truly sets Brewhaus apart is not just the drink selection, but the staff’s dedication to crafting memorable experiences. Guests like Tony Wood recall the exceptional service from bartender Jake, whose blend of attentiveness and engaging personality kept the energy lively, with a karaoke vibe that had patrons humming along to jukebox hits across the decades. Meanwhile, Justine’s warm smile and knack for making each customer feel unique, even on the busiest nights during events like the Downhome Music Festival, continues to win loyal fans.

The atmosphere here radiates a relaxed and comfortable vibe, ideal for those looking to escape the upscale or pretentious bar scenes. Shane King describes it as a “very relaxed/chill environment” where the bartenders invite good conversation without any pressure, creating a genuine social space that feels more like gathering with friends than visiting a bar. This vibe is supported by Michael Blasius’s experience of a friendly staff and an inviting old-school feel that makes both lunch and evening drinks feel right at home.

Of course, no establishment is without its quirks. One patron took note of some maintenance issues in the past, mentioning water drips near the back door and the need for some updates to the restrooms and ceiling. However, these observations stand alongside overwhelmingly positive experiences that highlight a place where atmosphere and service make a strong impression.

Whether you're settling in for a midday walleye sandwich paired with a cold draught or spending an evening mingling with friendly locals and talented bartenders, Brewhaus in Springfield delivers a uniquely authentic bar experience. It’s an ideal stop for those who appreciate quality drinks, great service, and a welcoming, no-frills atmosphere that feels like a true home away from home.

Stopped in here for some lunch. A lot of places nearby have closed. Brewhaus is doing just fine. Friendly staff. Old school feel. I had the walleye sandwich and it was awesome! Great beers on tap and they'll even had a dry cider, which can be hard to come by.

Great bar. Jake served and entertained a busy bar of patrons, expertly keeping an eye on drink levels along the bar, all the while joining in (karaoke style) with juke box hits from across the decades. Top notch service, from a top not bartender, serving friendly locals and tourists alike. This bar and its people absolutely made our visit to Springfield a winner!

Went there for the Downhome Music Festival, Justine was my bartender. Even though it was packed, she made sure to make everyone’s experience there unique with a smile and a little chat. Excellent service from her. Will definitely go again.

I'll start with the atmosphere. On the night I came there appeared to be some sort of what I assumed was a water leak from the ceiling near the back door. Water dripping into a garbage can and the floor had standing water. The restrooms looked like they were out of Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. Ceiling was peeling off in many areas and no clue what was peeling off the walls. With that said I see why this place is kept as dark as a movie theater. The bartender was very nice and attentive. Food took quite a while to come out despite there only being one other table. I was surprised at the menu prices considering everything was marked up $3-$5 from what is shown in their online menu. $17 for burger, fries and drink is pretty steep for bar food even in this economy. My daughter's burger was huge and thick but unfortunately drier than the Sahara. My Cuban on the other hand was very good. I've never had this sandwich before so nothing to compare to but this one was a hit. You do get a heaping portion of fries. I'd recommend this place if u don't have high expectations, don't have to use the restroom & if you're a vampire avoiding light.

It was a very relaxed/chill environment. My partners buddy was in the hospital so I went and chilled here for a few hours while they visited. the drinks were great, and the bartenders were great to have a conversation. It's definitely not an uppity type of place so if that's your vibe it might not be for you. I can't wait to go back though.
